In our library foyer you’ll find this bronze statue titled “Inspiration” by french sculptor Leon Pilet. The money ($40) that was used to purchase the sculpture was the prize money won and donated by Miss Lillie Fair Smith in 1904 for her essay “Could America Have Won the Revolutionary War without the Help of France?”. It has been a part of the library ever since.
